Obama tells Mavs coach Rick Carlisle he is "really proud" of the team

President Barack Obama called Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle earlier today to congratulate him and the team on winning the NBA championship.

According to the White House: "The President told Coach Carlisle that he is really proud of the way the team played and congratulated him on the job he did coaching the team. The President highlighted the performances of several players including Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry and JJ Barea. The President said he looked forward to congratulating the team in person at the White House."

White House aides say they aren't sure when the team might stop by for a visit.
It might be a while, though. The 2009 championship Lakers didn't get to the White House until January 2010. And when the Lakers won again in 2010, it wasn't until December before the president, a Chicago Bulls fan, celebrated their winning season.
