After Osama, Who's Next for the Obama Administration?

He lives in a walled compound within sight of the nation's most elite military academy. Does the military know he's there? Of course it does. It has to. His proximity to the elite military academy is part of the reason he chose to live where he does. He is notoriously concerned about his security, and living close to a military nerve center makes him feel safer. Besides, he is an enthusiastic supporter of his country's military, though not of its government. He is friendly with some of the officers who teach at the academy, and sometimes volunteers to teach their classes, the better to influence the young minds who will comprise his country's next generation of leadership. So, although he is always surrounded by the security personnel on his payroll, he's not exactly living in secret, or, for that matter, in poverty. He lives not in a cave along with other zealots and die-hards but rather in a mansion built just for him and his third wife, about five years ago.

Indeed, for all his open enmity for the government of the United States of America, Fox News chief Roger Ailes may be living right under the government's nose, in Garrison, New York, just across the Hudson River from the United States Military Academy at West Point. It beggars belief to think that he is able to live there without the cooperation, or even the protection, of the highest levels of the administration he has vowed to bring down. It beggars belief to think that if the administration wanted to find him, it wouldn't know exactly where to look.

And yet for some reason President Obama and the rest of his administration continue to turn a blind eye to Ailes's anti-government activities, even as Ailes continues to practice them. To be sure, Ailes has been relatively quiet of late, and has been weakened by his public schism with the most extreme and seditious of his lieutenants, the charismatic carny-barker of the conspiratorial right, Glenn Beck. But if the administration thinks that Ailes is softening his anti-government stance, it is only fooling itself, or letting itself be fooled. After all...
