For those not glued to the hearing (watch it here) of the
National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, here's how the votes are shaking out so far.
Co-chairs Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson obviously support it; they wrote it.
The top Democrat and Republican on the Senate Budget Committee also announced they'll support it: Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and GOP Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire. David Cote, chairman and CEO of Honeywell International and a Republican, also said he will support it, as did Alice Rivlin, a Democrat who served as White House budget director under Bill Clinton.
The only no vote so far: Rep. Jan Schakowsky, R-Ill.
Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, a Democratic leader, said he'll hold off on making up his mind.
The actual vote will be on Friday. Congressional leaders say they'll put proposals before lawmakers that get 14 of 18 votes from the commission.
Undeclared but apparently leaning toward a no vote: Dallas GOP Rep. Jeb Hensarling and Rep Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the incoming Republican budget chairman.
