Dallas County Democratic Party Chairwoman Darlene Ewing said Tuesday that she would seek one more term as leader of the local party.
Ewing, a lawyer, made the announcement amid speculation that she would retire as party chairwoman when her term ended in 2012. Also, there have been mild efforts to find a candidate to run against Ewing.
"I'm going to run for one more, final term," Ewing said.
As it relates to electoral victories, Ewing is one of the most successful party leaders in the history of Dallas County. Since becoming chairwoman in 2005, she's never lost a countywide race.
Her Republican rival, Jonathan Neerman, is seeking another term as well.
Neerman, a lawyer, sent an email to supporters last week announcing that he was running for re-election in 2012.
Though he has taken his lumps from Ewing, Neerman has been credited with re-energizing local Republicans.
