Perry replenishes coffers with late money

Rick Perry spent about $28 million in his race against Bill White -- not a Texas record, but a hefty amont for a general election.

The figure is based on the Perry campaign's summary of his finances released Tuesday. All candidates must file their campaign finance reports by midnight, but it takes at least 24 hours for the voluminous reports to be posted.

The Perry campaign provided how much it raised and how much cash it had at the end of the year. Based on it's previous reports, it means the governor's campaign spent about $9.9 million in the final push of the general election -- or about $1 million a day. And was down to its last $100,000.

The latest report covering the period from Oct. 24-Dec. 31 shows Perry raised $2.6 million and now has about $2.7 million cash on hand. Much of that money came in during fundraisers held after the election.
